Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved ₦1 billion as bursary support for students of Edo origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The announcement came during a town hall meeting with youth groups, where student leaders had appealed for financial support to ease the burden of higher education.
The governor confirmed that the bursary scheme will become an annual initiative aimed at helping Edo students and their families cope with educational expenses. He explained that eligibility will depend on verification through each applicant’s Local Government of Origin to ensure only genuine indigenes benefit.
Governor Okpebholo said the initiative is part of his administration’s goal to make education more accessible, reward academic effort, and empower young people to play active roles in state and national development. Designated government agencies will share application details and timelines in the coming weeks.
