The French government has issued a sweeping ban preventing Ajax supporters from traveling to Marseille for next week’s Champions League game. The interior ministry decree bars all movement of Ajax fans by road, rail, sea, or air from French border points to the city of Marseille. Officials cited security concerns, pointing to repeated incidents of disorder linked to Ajax matches and long-standing hostility between the clubs’ fans. Marseille authorities had already restricted Ajax supporters earlier this month, banning their presence on public roads and inside the Stade Velodrome. The decision follows past trouble involving Dutch fans in the city, including violent clashes during Marseille’s Europa Conference League tie against Feyenoord in 2022.
