A tragic ambush by unknown gunmen in Kum village, located in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, has resulted in the death of one man and left another critically injured. The attack took place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, around 8:15 p.m. when the two victims, identified as 48-year-old Joshua Ezekiel and 51-year-old Dung Jatau, were travelling by motorcycle along the Riyom to Kum road. Armed men opened fire on them, causing severe injuries.
Security sources reported that both victims were immediately transported to the General Hospital in Riyom, but Ezekiel was pronounced dead upon arrival. Jatau, who survived the attack, is receiving treatment and is reportedly in stable condition, though some reports suggest his injuries may have worsened; this has yet to be confirmed.
The community is on edge following the attack, with locals expressing growing concern over the safety of rural commuters, especially during the evening hours. Leaders in the Riyom area have called for calm and urged residents to stay vigilant.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
