Governor Alia Promises Improved Welfare for Benue Workers, Seeks Support for Second Term

Governor Alia pledges enhanced welfare and security for Benue workers while seeking their backing for a second term during May Day celebration.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has called on the state’s workforce to support his bid for a second term in office. Speaking at the May Day celebration in Makurdi, he assured workers that their welfare would remain a top priority throughout his tenure. Governor Alia committed to the prompt payment of salaries and pensions for both workers and retirees, emphasizing that this was not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of his administration’s dedication to their well-being.

Alia also stressed that his government would continue diligently working to address security issues in the state, with a particular focus on ensuring the safe return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their communities. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in Benue, allowing residents to resume farming and contributing to state and national food security.

“Security is our priority, and we will not relax until full peace is restored in Benue,” Alia stated. He also assured that the workers would receive one month’s salary arrears in the coming month and the regular monthly payments made before the 24th.

The Governor urged the workers to continue supporting his administration, hinting at his desire for another term. “Don’t fail the mathematics of four plus four,” he added, referencing his aspirations for reelection.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Benue State chapter, Comrade Terungwa Igbe, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the regular payment of salaries and pensions but urged him to settle the long-standing 2017 salary arrears. Igbe also praised the Governor for implementing the minimum wage but pointed out that inflation had diminished the value of the wage adjustments.

This May Day gathering highlighted the achievements and ongoing challenges faced by the state’s workers and underscored Governor Alia’s commitment to improving their living conditions and securing his second term.
