The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has raised a red flag over the spread of fake postgraduate scholarship offers by fraudsters targeting unsuspecting applicants. According to a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the scammers are circulating deceptive emails and messages, falsely claiming to represent the commission’s foreign scholarship programme.
Thompson-Wakama explained that these messages, allegedly from “nddcregistry@gmail.com” and signed under the name “Board Registry,” invite recipients to a fake document verification exercise in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, she clarified, is entirely fictitious and scheduled to take place from May 19 to May 21.
The NDDC disassociated itself from this fake selection process, emphasizing that it does not request money or sensitive information from applicants at any stage. Thompson-Wakama stated that all authentic updates on the NDDC Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme are posted only through the commission’s verified portal.
She urged applicants and the general public to disregard any unsolicited messages related to scholarships that are not issued via the NDDC’s official channels. Anyone who receives such fraudulent emails is advised to report them immediately to law enforcement authorities for swift action.
The commission also encouraged Nigerians interested in its programmes to visit www.nddc.gov.ng to confirm any information. Past beneficiaries and new applicants are advised to remain cautious and stay informed through official sources only.
