Nigerian National Arrested for Drug Trafficking in India

A 37-year-old Nigerian, Jacob Ugwu, was arrested in India for his role in trafficking MDMA across multiple states. Investigations continue into his criminal network.

A 37-year-old Nigerian man, Jacob Ugwu, has been arrested by India’s Crime Branch for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Ugwu, who entered India a year ago claiming to work as a hotel cook, had been living in the Krishnapuri area of Delhi. There, he operated a refreshment shop that authorities believe served as a front for distributing Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).

His arrest follows the questioning of two Indian nationals, Hariom Jha (26) and Lakshya Singh Rajput (26), who were caught near the MR10 Bridge in Indore. Police seized 36 grams of MDMA, a Tata Altroz vehicle, and several mobile phones from the two men. During their interrogation, they disclosed that they had been sourcing the drugs from Ugwu, who is thought to be the central figure in a larger drug network operating across multiple states in India.

Ugwu, originally from Enugu City, Nigeria, admitted to living in Delhi for the past two to three years. For the last year, he has been supplying MDMA through his associates. The two Indian suspects, Jha and Rajput, were reportedly transporting the drugs when they were apprehended.

Following his arrest, Ugwu is now under police remand for further questioning about his role in the drug trade and his associates. Authorities expect more arrests as the investigation into the network continues. The case has been registered under the NDPS Act, with Ugwu facing charges related to drug trafficking.
