Three Arrested After Sex Worker Dies During Brothel Dispute in Akure

Police arrest three suspects after a sex worker dies during a fight over a refund in an Akure brothel. Investigation ongoing to track two others.

Police in Ondo State have arrested three people linked to the death of a sex worker at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure. The incident happened early Sunday morning, June 29, 2025. According to witnesses, a male customer became angry after claiming he wasn’t satisfied with the service and demanded a refund of ₦15,000 from the woman. During the argument, the sex worker reportedly became weak and unresponsive, prompting a heated confrontation.

The hotel manager’s efforts to calm the situation failed. The man left the scene but returned with a group believed to be his friends to retrieve the money forcibly. The fight escalated, leading the brothel manager to call the police. A patrol team arrived and arrested the man along with two others at the scene. The woman’s health worsened, and she was taken to a nearby hospital in Lafe, then transferred to the police hospital in Akure, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the arrests and stated that two more suspects are still at large. He noted that the names of those involved are being withheld while the investigation continues. The body has been placed in the morgue at the State Specialist Hospital for autopsy. Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full investigation. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and report any helpful information. The suspects will be charged in court once investigations are complete.
