A bus crash at Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State has claimed the lives of four seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Church. The seminarians were on a tour of the resort when their bus, accompanied by a Reverend Father, experienced brake failure while descending the Bottom Hill of Obudu Ranch, near Ikwette Village. The bus plunged into a valley, instantly killing the four seminarians and injuring nine others. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Obudu.
Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu expressed sorrow over the tragedy in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill. The Governor confirmed that efforts are being made to reach out to the families of the victims to provide support. The Governor’s statement emphasized the preliminary finding that brake failure was likely the cause of the crash.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Nigerian Army, quickly arrived at the scene and provided aid. The state government has assured the public that safety measures will be reviewed at the resort, and visitors will be reminded to prioritize vehicle safety and follow all guidelines while visiting.
