On Tuesday, a woman named Hussaina Musa appeared before a Shari’a court in Rigasa, Kaduna State, requesting the dissolution of her marriage. She told the court that her husband, Hussaini Umar, leaves home whenever they have disagreements. She explained that during their last misunderstanding, he left her without food for over a month, forcing her to return to her parents’ home.
Hussaina stated that the constant abandonment and lack of support had pushed her to the limit. She no longer felt safe or respected in the marriage and asked the court to end the union.
In response, the husband denied abandoning her. He said he traveled to another town for work and admitted there was a disagreement during the fasting period. According to him, he had informed her elder brother and was working on resolving the matter with the family’s help. He asked the court for more time to make peace and reconcile with his wife.
The presiding judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu, postponed the case to May 8, giving the couple time to settle the matter privately. He also instructed Hussaina to provide witnesses if reconciliation efforts fail.
